Biography:
Dr Suren Jayaweera is a high-volume endocrine surgeon in Melbourne specialising exclusively in thyroid and parathyroid surgery. He performs approximately 300 thyroid and parathyroid procedures annually and is recognised for his expertise in thyroid cancer surgery, complex endocrine surgery, re-operative thyroid surgery, minimally invasive thyroid surgery and paediatric thyroid disease.
Dr Jayaweera is one of the lead surgeons in the Monash thyroid cancer multidisciplinary team, one of Victoria’s highest-volume thyroid cancer services, where he manages patients with both routine and complex thyroid cancer. He is also Head of Paediatric Endocrine Surgery at Monash Children’s Hospital and is one of only a small number of endocrine surgeons in Melbourne performing highly specialised paediatric thyroid surgery.
In addition to conventional thyroid and parathyroid surgery, Dr Jayaweera was the first surgeon in Melbourne to perform transoral thyroid surgery (TOETVA), a scarless thyroid surgery technique that avoids a visible neck incision in selected patients.
