GENERAL AND TRANSPLANT SURGEON
Dr Sherry Salter is a Consultant General and Transplant Surgeon, based at Monash Health since 2017. Dr Salter is a New Zealand-born Samoan who now lives in Melbourne with her husband and two very active young sons. As well as performing surgery, she mentors surgical trainees and publishes articles relating to her work. In balancing her life, Sherry enjoys spending time with her family as well as travel, fashion and watching rugby and AFL.
Training and Qualifications
Dr Sherry Salter studied medicine at The University of Otago, New Zealand, graduating in 2003. She subsequently trained in general surgery and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2013. Sherry then spent 2 years of further training in Sydney and Melbourne, completing a fellowship in renal and pancreas transplantation surgery. She also completed a fellowship in trauma at the Auckland City Hospital, New Zealand. Dr Salter has worked in a number of both urban and rural settings throughout her career. She is the first and only female general surgeon of Pacific Island heritage working in Australia and is fluent in Samoan.
Surgical Services
Dr Sherry Salter accepts a range of general surgical referrals. These include surgery for appendix, abscess, gallbladder, hernias and skin lesions (lipomas, cysts, skin cancers). She also performs renal access and transplant surgery on renal failure patients.

Dr Salter has public hospital appointments at Monash Medical Centre in Clayton, Dandenong Hospital, Casey Hospital and Moorabbin Hospital. Her private hospital appointment is at Jessie McPherson Private Hospital, Clayton.
