Biography:
Dr Kirsten Palmer is a consultant obstetrician and maternal fetal medicine subspecialist. She received her medical degree with honours from The University of Melbourne in 2006. Since then she has completed her speciality training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology across Monash Health, Mercy Hospital for Women and Barwon Health. This was followed by completion of her sub‐speciality qualification in Maternal Fetal Medicine, requiring a further 3 years of dedicated training in complex pregnancy care. She is one of only seventy such specialists across Australia and New Zealand. As a result, she has the expertise to provide care for women during pregnancy regardless of any pre‐existing medical conditions or challenges that may arise during pregnancy itself for either mother or baby.
Dr Palmer is also the Head of Maternal Fetal Medicine at Monash Medical Centre, Monash Health. In this role, she works at the forefront of advanced obstetric care, leading practice improvement initiatives, the maternal fetal medicine and fetal growth restriction clinics, and also oversees the training of future sub‐specialists.
Additionally, she has also completed a Bachelor of Biomedical Science and a PhD. She is passionate about improving outcomes for women and their babies, so continues to undertake research. She heads the Maternal and Perinatal Medicine Translational Research Group, works as a senior lecturer and supervises numerous higher degree research students within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Monash University. Her research interests focus predominately on placental disorders, where she is working to develop new approaches to care delivery and treatments to improve outcomes for mothers and babies affected by these conditions.
Jessie McPherson Private Hospital, co‐located with Monash Medical Centre and Monash Children’s Hospital, ensures access to the full breadth of facilities that may be required during pregnancy and birth. In choosing to deliver private obstetric care at Jessie McPherson, Dr Kirsten Palmer knows she can provide optimal care for women and their babies.
