Getting admitted into Jessie McPherson Private Hospital

If you are being admitted as a patient here, the following information will be useful for you and your carers in preparation of your stay with us. Maternity bookings at Jessie McPherson Private Hospital can only be made through your obstetrician.  Please view our specialist directory  to find all obstetricians  who deliver at Jessie McPherson Private Hospital.

To enquire about admission to Jessie McPherson Private Hospital, please complete the online maternity admission enquiry form or contact our pre-admission nurse on (03) 9594 5302.

Pre-admission

Before the birth, you are required to make an appointment for a pre-admission interview so we can review your previous medical history. You will have the opportunity to ask questions about your pregnancy and the birth at the interview.

Once confirmed, you will receive an information package in the mail. This will include a ‘Patient Booking Form’ which needs to be completed and returned to the hospital in the supplied reply paid envelope. You will also receive an estimate of costs in the mail at approximately 36 weeks of your pregnancy.

Between 12-18 weeks gestation, you will be contacted to organise an appointment time for a midwifery interview. The interview is conducted by telephone with the aim of documenting your medical and previous pregnancy history (if applicable). If we have been unable to contact you by 18 weeks gestation please contact us to arrange an interview. You can also use this opportunity to discuss tours and classes.

Once you have completed all the booking requirements, should any details change, please notify us immediately.

Costs

It is important that you are aware of any fees that may be associated with your stay before you come to hospital.

At 36 weeks, if you are using private health cover, you will receive a letter advising you of any out of pocket expenses not covered by your private health insurance. It is essential that you contact your private health fund to ensure that you have an appropriate level of cover and are aware of potential costs.
If you have any queries after contacting your health fund, do not hesitate to contact the Patient Services department on (03) 9594 2776.

If you are not using private health insurance and are funding your own stay, we are able to provide you with an estimate of your costs by approximately 20 weeks.

Self- funded patients and overseas patients

If you are not privately insured, you will be asked to pay the estimated cost of hospitalisation prior to admission. It is therefore necessary to contact our Patients Services Manager (phone (03) 9594 2776) for an estimate of fees and charges prior to your hospital admission. Payment may be made by cash, cheque or credit card.

Costs for obstetric, anaesthetic and paediatric services are contracted between yourself and the practitioner. Please discuss with the individual specialists the costs that may be incurred.
